Braided Rugs

Every little object is important in its own way. It is the same with braided rugs too. Though they may not have the same status as Oriental rugs, a braided rug too is valuable and worthy because of its utility.

Manufacturing Process

Among the many types of rugs available in the market, area rugs, braided rugs, and Oriental rugs are quite popular. As their name suggests, “braided rugs” are primarily made up of a few strips of cloth braided together to form a circle or ellipse. All the loose ends are sewn to strengthen the rug on the whole. This is just a preliminary idea as to how a braided rug is neatly designed. Based on this, several features can be added to make the rug appealing and user-friendly too.

Utilities

Like other rugs, braided rugs are available in different colors and designs. The range is simply stunning. The most common among them is Chandler 4 Corners. Braided rugs can be used to complement other types of rugs too. They go well with carpets. They can also be hung as wall decorations.

It is not just the color and shape; you need to be careful in choosing the appropriate texture and finishing, too. Look at the edges and sides, and decide whether you are going to add another padding of cotton or other materials to the standard product. This will further strengthen the rug and prolong its life.

Themes like beauty and elegance are the propelling factors behind most interior-decorating ideas. Choosing a rug is one such step. Braided area rugs offer the convenience of ‘mix-n-match’ options. You can order a mixed braided rug or a multi-layered one reflecting many colors.

You can choose from a small rug to an extra-large rug. There are rectilinear rugs available for your dining room, guest room, etc.

The best way to choose a braided rug is to match it with your room décor. You need to remember the fact that the easiest way to remodel your home or office is to perhaps choose classic braided rugs and place them in the appropriate and exclusive place.

Traditional Braided Area Rugs

Traditional Braided Area Rugs

The craft and origin of braided rugs has been the subject of some debate over the years. It is said that the art and craft of braided rugs has roots in the Native American culture. Indigenous cultures the world over have long and well documented histories of rug making. Others contend that the braided rug came to the New World with early European settlers, originally as rag rugs. Regardless of the how the braided rug arrived in North America, the popularity of these rugs has not diminished over the years.

Rag rug making has long been considered a folk art that is still widely practiced. Like many other types of weaving, rug making was a home based craft, borne out of necessity. Frontier settlers did have the luxury of climbing into the family wagon and heading to the local rug store. If something was needed for the home, be it a warm blanket or a rug, a way was found to make it.

As the term implies, rag rugs were made from any available scraps of fabric. Like quilting, the practice of utilizing available materials meant that color schemes and patterns were a secondary consideration. In essence, form followed function. Fabric dyeing, if done at all, made use of local plants, berries and roots. Again, the practice of fabric dyeing was not limited to European settlers. For centuries, Native Americans understood the power of nature to provide beauty and color. This understanding can be seen in virtually every aspect of Native American life.

Traditional braided rugs can be found in a wide variety of weaving styles and construction. Regardless of the fabric, weave or construction, properly made braided rugs share one common feature. Simply put, a proper rug must be made to lay flat on the floor. One sure sign of a poorly braided rug is curling and bunching. A properly made braided or rag rug will have a flat braid. Flat braids are sometimes referred to as tape braids. Flat braids are made by weaving around at least two parallel center cords.

Many round braids are made by weaving around a single, round center cord. The practice of round braiding is a technique that can be found in more modern rug construction. Round braiding is a perfectly acceptable practice, though some less expensive round braid rugs have some problems. Use of a stiff center core in combination with a poor quality yarn will result in a rug that does wear very well. Cheap yarn abrading against a hard center core causes the yarn to wear prematurely, often exposing the center core material.

One of the more unique and beautiful characteristics of braided rugs is color. Makers of early braided rugs might have used whatever fabric or yarn was at hand. The result was a blend or variegation of many colors, often resulting in random patterns. The variegation in color made every rug unique much like patchwork quilts which did not rely on any particular pattern. Variegated rug patterns are perennial favorites among those folks prefer a very traditional look.

The practice of dyeing fabrics and yarns allowed weavers to create patterns of more uniform color. The choice of styles and patterns available today is quite diverse with some rugs following thematic patterns.

Quality braided rugs are easy to care for. Remember that these rugs have been around since before the introduction of such modern conveniences as the vacuum cleaner. Tightly sewn and woven braided rugs could be swept clean with stiff broom. Braided rugs are reversible and regularly turning the rug over greatly extends the life of the rug.

Braided Rugs: Braided Rugs Can Add A Touch Of Elegance To Any Room

When thinking about rugs, most people envision an Asian themed rug. This type is called an oriental rug and is a very popular choice of rug. There is another type called the braided rug. It may not be as famous as the oriental type, however it is a beautiful and historic rug that deserves a look into.

Essentially a braided rug is a rug that has been formed by braiding strips of material together. They are very strong and come in a variety of shapes and colors to suit any home. Although they are usually found in an oval shape, don’t be surprised to find circular, rectangular or even heart-based shapes.

Braided rugs can add a touch of elegance to any room. They can either be used on their own, to compliment other rugs and carpets, and they can even be hung on walls. The rugs come in many varieties from the more simple types, to mixed colored rugs, to the more dynamic multi-layered type rugs. You’re certain to find a braided rug to accompany your tastes while looking great in your home.

Braided rugs have a long history, which begins from the late 1800’s. Braided rugs where in fact made from less graceful materials like old clothing or fabric. The rugs were not used for decorative purposes but instead used to cover their cold floors and warm their homes. Modern braided rugs are made from the finest cotton and wool and generally last longer.

In the early 1900’s, braided rugs started to become an art form and their popularity soared to the 1930’s.

These days, braided rugs are considered antiques, so the older the rug is, the more expensive it probably is. New braided rugs will be more affordably priced and are recommended over the older types, especially if you are a new to this type of rug.

If you are interested in creating your own braided rug, there are braided rug kits available from craft suppliers. Unfortunately interest in braided rugs has waned over the years but can still be found in area rug retailers, furniture shops and on the Internet.

Introduction To Rugs

Movable carpets with finished edges are called as rugs. This phrase was earlier used for the garments used by humans to protect their pets from climatic changes. Rugs can be used atop your carpets or even on plain floor. They are available in a variety of colors and designs and help change the appearance of the room. The different types of rugs are:

¨Persian rugs: These rugs contain complex designs. These can be used either on the floor or hung up on the walls.

¨American design rugs: These are of three types - hooked rugs, shirred rugs and braided rugs. Hooked rugs have different designs and sceneries pictured on them. Shirred rag rugs have different strips of fabric sewn together artistically in a network of rows and columns. Braided rugs are made up of color or multi-colored braids or threads.

¨Bearskin rugs: These rugs have derived their name from the fact that the material used in the making of this rug is similar to a bear’s skin in appearance.

There are a number of factors to be kept in mind when purchasing rugs for interior decoration. It is important to know beforehand specifically what your requirements are. Some important factors to be considered are:

a. Flooring decoration: Good flooring can give a pleasing look to your room and also thrill the minds of your guests. Decorating the flooring also keeps it free from soiling. So the rugs used to cover your flooring should not look odd.

b. Texture of rugs: Rugs of different colors and designs can be used to decorate the room. They are portable and easy to maintain. Choose which type of rug suits your room the most.

c. Cost: Rugs are less expensive than carpets and can be used anywhere. There are different qualities of rugs for all price ranges. Hence, you must select a rug that lies within your budget and at the same time also lends a good look to your room.

d. Warranty: When your purchase rugs, see if the dealer is known for being reliable and if he provides only authentic goods. Find out if there is any warranty period for the rugs and whether a provision to return the defective products is present.

e. Rugs should be fireproof and also withstand wear and tear.

f. Apart from all this, the rugs should not gather dust from the surrounding easily. In case this happens, it should be possible to clean the dust easily without much trouble.

Rugs come in different colors and textures. It must be chosen depending on the buyers’ taste. Among all the materials, nylon rugs are preferred due to their durability and ability to retain color after long usage. Other materials used in the manufacture of rugs are olefin, polypropylene, wool and cotton. If you have more children and if there is a chance of more dust accumulating on the rug, it is advisable to purchase a rug made of polypropylene as it is accumulates less dust and it is easier to clean it.

Area Rugs 101

Area rugs are a great way to accentuate portions of a room and add to the mood and ambience of the interior decoration by harmonizing colors and shapes. Ideally, the primary colors of the rug should complement the wall, furniture, and furnishing colors. The rugs can be used to focus attention on another aspect of interior decoration or can be used as the center of attraction. Large, centrally placed medallion rugs garner maximum attention. Area rugs are available in a variety of materials, textures, and shapes.

Area rugs are an excellent combination of form and utility and beautifully crafted hand rugs are veritable works of art. Most handmade area rugs are made from fine quality wool that is capable of withstanding the rigors of heavy traffic and regular cleanings. High quality handmade area rugs may have a density of 750 knots per square inch and above.

Area rugs have evolved into unique shapes and designs all over the world. Oval braided rugs have history dating back to the colonial period in the U.S. They are popular even today and oval braided rugs in shades such as brown, blue, or green lend a rustic feel to a room. Area rugs can also have a luxurious lush pile in warm colors that accentuate a feeling of cozy comfort. Mexican rugs and dhurries from India can alter the tone of an arrangement of furniture such that it acquires a characteristic distinct from the rest of the room.

Area rugs require to be taken care of and if the rug is not too bulky, it can be taken to the cleaners who have the expertise of handling area rugs made from different materials. Care should be taken that furniture is not placed on the newly washed wet rugs otherwise the rugs will carry permanent marks. Spills should be diluted with water and brushed gently from outside to the center.

The cost of an area rug depends upon its manufacturing process and materials used. Handmade Persian and Oriental rugs can be expensive. Machine-manufactured rugs that are durable and can stand wear and tear are available for as low as fifty dollars; at the same time there are area rugs that can cost a few thousand dollars and are often used in mansions and hotel lobbies to complement the fine furniture in these places.

Wood floors and area rugs complement one another amazingly well; wood floors are elegant and easy to clean and area rugs offer a variety of options to accentuate the character of a room with wooden flooring and also act as a source of warmth for the feet on cold winter days. Area rugs fit in with the décor of every room and this adds to their appeal; they not only enliven a dull room but also help to reduce noise levels.

Moroccan Rugs - How To Cheer Up Your Home Decor

Adding a touch of ethnicity to your home’s interiors by using furniture, furnishings, and rugs is a sure way to brighten the atmosphere! Over the past few years, decorating homes in ethnic styles has become extremely popular. Sensing the demand for original tribal art from various places around the world, even big stores such as Target have been known to launch complete furnishing lines that reflect a particular culture or region such as Indian or Japanese home furnishing lines.

One of the most popular emerging styles is Moroccan, especially in the rugs and carpet industry. Hand-woven Moroccan rugs are a fantastic way to invite warmth and create a bright and charming atmosphere in your home.

Moroccan rugs have been infusing the magic of color and art to the homes of millions over the world. Moroccan rugs and art have been widely connected to the west and examples of this can be seen in Bauhaus movement or in the works of American designers like Billy Baldwin during the 1960’s and 1970’s.

The simple geometric patterns of Moroccan rugs have been used for long to lend a stylish, urbane and sophisticated look to most of the modern furnishings. The famous pile carpets from the Middle Atlas Mountain region of Morocco are proudly displayed in renowned historic houses such as Frank Lloyd Wright's iconic Fallingwater and Charles and Ray Eames spectacular Pacific Palisades house in California.

And with the late 1990’s, Moroccan rugs revival was imminent as designers and public showed a renewed interest for elements of the 1960’s and 70’s era both in terms of style and color. Bright and warm hues of oranges and saffron yellows reflecting in Moroccan rugs geometrical patterns were scene stealers. Moreover, these rugs are made from spun wool and had an authentic indigenous character making them ‘one-of-a-kind’ with a quality that was hard to find in their synthetic factory made modern cousins.

Moroccan rugs were and are still being made by the Berbers, who are an indigenous tribe of North African region living in Morocco. These weavers use hand-dyed wool to weave the rugs and each rug is unique in its design, use of colors, and patterns. The designs of Moroccan rugs are often similar to those found in the weaving of Native Americans.

Another type of Moroccan rugs are ‘kilims’ or ‘hanbels’ though these are lightweight, flat in weave and motifs are made with variations of red, blue, green, yellow, mauve and white. The price of Moroccan rugs and kilims are usably determined by the size, quality of the design and the colors used.

Why Buy Moroccan Rugs?

A holistic mix of modern and ethnic styling and design, Moroccan rugs lend a distinctly stylish look to your home decor. Warm and bright, they can simply liven up any space and make it look trendy, colorful and luxurious. Romance is an integral part of Moroccan culture and your Moroccan furnishings can bring some of that feeling in your room or home.

Rectilinear Moroccan carpets and rugs are visually striking and rich, and vivid with interesting motifs, making them a perfect flooring accessory for your living room or bedroom. Made from organic, hand woven wool, Moroccan rugs can be hung on walls hanging or used as a throw.

Let’s look at some of the things you should know before you set out to purchase Moroccan rugs for your home:

Rugs Authenticity –Always shop around. Extremely low priced rugs may mean that the products are not authentic. All Moroccan rugs are made from wool and have very bright colors. Also, good quality rugs should have 120 knots/square inch of weave; turn the carpet over to look at the knots. Handmade carpet will feature variations in the knots as compared to factory made carpets. Ask the shopkeeper if you can burn a small bit of the fringe to check the authenticity of the material – silk and wool being natural fibers will smolder when burnt.

Rugs Design—Bold patterns, visually enticing motifs and sparkling colors, Moroccan rugs are eye-catching to say the least. If your room already has a lot of visual movement and your furnishings are heavily designed then opt for a less conspicuous pattern.

Rugs Formality—Casual and comfortable appeal of the Moroccan carpets is a reflection of the tribal heritage of the indigenous people. You may not be able to achieve an authentically layered look as the Moroccan rugs are made in larger sizes to fulfill modern living room requirements.

Keep these things in mind when buying Moroccan rugs and enliven your home decor today!

Rug - Snug as a Bug!

Rugs are a great way to decoratively cover a floor. Whether you have carpet, tile or hardwood, a rug can protect your floor and add a designer’s touch to it! Since rugs are more interchangeable than the base flooring, you can change the rugs and change the whole look of a room. It’s a great way to vary your interior design.

My favorites are Persian rugs. I love the intricate designs. In fact, they are so pretty that I don’t always put them on the floor. Yes, there’s a big one in the living room and another runner in the hall, but my favorite is a small round multi-colored Persian rug in deep red tones that I hang on the wall in my bedroom. It’s always been just too beautiful to walk on. Cream-colored fringe on the edges hangs down so nicely from the rug!

Early American designs are a favorite of many. There are hooked rugs and shirred rugs and braided rugs. The hooked rugs, in particular, have very intricate designs with various scenes pictured on them. Shirred rag rugs are a creative use of strips of fabric sewn together in a coil or in rows. Everyone knows the traditional braided rugs. They are also coils, but these are made of braids. They can be one color or multi-colored. Look at Rugs Direct.com for some great examples of all three kinds, as well as others.

Of course, the rug of all rugs is the bearskin rug! Honestly, I’d rather have a fake. I don’t want some bear to die so he can decorate my floor. But I’m happy to have a good imitation in front of my fireplace. I do spend time on it with my beloved. We pour wine and set out some cheese and crackers and lie back to enjoy the evening in front of the fireplace. Now that’s the way to get the best use out of your rug!

There are many rugs ideas on the internet. Browse Cyberrug.com and see!

Home Decorating - People Love Rugs that Appeal to The Senses

Using rugs here and there is a decorative way to add charm and personality to your home. Rugs help you create the look and feel you want for each room. But, it goes beyond that. Rugs are more than just floor coverings - they can also appeal to our senses.

The most obvious sense that rugs impact is sight. Rugs can create visual interest with eye-catching designs or bold colors. A rug can also be it's own focal point or it can help draw attention to something nearby. It might be a piece of furniture or a feature of the room that is highlighted because of the rug's placement.

Touch, or feel, is another major sense that many rugs appeal to. Anyone who has ever been barefoot on a cold bare floor and then stepped onto a rug has felt instant relief. I was raised in an area of the United States that has cold winters. No matter how much warmth the furnace pumped out, the bare floors were cold in our old house. New slippers were a welcome gift.

Certain types of rugs, such as shag, Flokati, and sheepskin rugs, have a remarkable feel thanks to the longer-than-usual material. When I say shag rugs, I am talking about the newer versions, not the out-dated ones from the 1970s. If you want to have a rug with cloud-like fluffiness, there's nothing better than a Flokati rug or a sheepskin rug. These rugs are just right when you want to lay on the floor in front of the TV, curl up in front of the fireplace, or just wiggle your toes in the thick, lush fibers.

In addition to the physical senses of sight and touch, many rugs can also appeal to our emotions. Rugs often convey a feeling of hospitality to guests by making a room feel warm and inviting. Many types of rugs will often generate some pleasant reactions:

* Some braided rugs give people a cozy, down-home feeling.

* A richly detailed, ornate rug might make one feel more regal.

* Whimsical themes or cartoon characters can induce smiling.

* A wildlife scene may remind someone of a favorite camping trip.

* Floral or animal designs might appeal to one's love of nature.

Rugs allow you to express yourself and show off your decorating style with the designs and colors you choose. And, to a lesser extent, your decorating expertise is revealed in the placement of your rugs. A rug can divide a room or it can bring the different elements of a room together. A rug can highlight a sitting area or help identify the traffic pattern from one room to another.

Many of us decorate the rooms of our homes based on what we have and where it fits. With the right rugs, we have the opportunity to create any mood or look we want in our rooms. Best of all, there are plenty of rugs to pick from to meet almost any budget.

Outdoor Rugs

Of late, the need for outdoor rugs has increased, as more and more people are opting for gazebos and patios. Smaller outdoors rugs are usually placed at the entrance, as they help keep out excess dust. The practice of using outdoor rugs prompts visitors to clean their shoes prior to entering a house. They tend to be smaller in size as compared to other outdoor rugs.

Outdoor rugs are available in a wide range of natural and synthetic fibers. Most people tend to use outdoor rugs near their lawns to create patio space for sitting. This prevents exposure to moisture retained by lawn grass allowing people to sit outdoors for longer periods. In case there is a gazebo in the backyard, outdoor rugs can be used to create a perfect sitting option. Apart from this, they can be used as decorative backdrops during outdoor parties and gatherings. When used for such purposes, it is possible that guests may spill food and drink on them. As such, they need to be cleaned as per manufacturer specifications. Care instructions and tips are often printed on the reverse side of outdoor rugs. Others may choose to place them on futons, rather than on the ground.

Though they are specially designed for outdoor use, it is not advisable to leave them out for long periods. This is because exposure to the elements can cause discoloration and weaken the rug. Prior to purchasing, customers need to mention to shop owners that they are looking for outdoor rugs. This is because most stores stock a larger variety of indoor rugs, as compared to outdoor collections.

A wide range of decorative outdoor rugs is also available. They prove to be expensive, as they are more decorative than intended for regular use. The main idea behind these outdoor rugs is to put them away after use. Potential customers may choose to buy outdoor rugs from local or online shops.

Bathroom Rugs

Bathroom rugs are commonplace in most homes and hotels. They are used for their aesthetic value and help provide a neater and cleaner look. Apart from this, most bathroom rugs are functional rather than decorative. They are used to wipe feet in order to avoid walking around the house in wet slippers. The best solution for this predicament at the household is to place area rugs on spots where there is a greater possibility of sliding or loosing balance to occur, especially on bathrooms or near a bathtub shower.

Area rugs are effective in holding a person in place, especially when balance control is interrupted. The frictional force between the rug and the floor is responsible for the hold phase. So instead of the person getting injured, his safety is secured.

But the right kind of the raw material it is made of when choosing area rugs should be considered as the top priority. There are those, which are made from poor quality of textile that instead of helping you stand in place causes added risk for injury.

If you are more than a happy person, with lots of blissful vibes, and who is always on the go, you can opt for a brighter shade. Such as bright red, orange, yellow and yellow green colors. If you are quite reserved, you can have blue or darker shades of green. If you are more of a romantic person, red is simply the best.

Contemporary Wool Rugs

Contemporary wool rugs come in new and modern designs. They are made from traditional to modern materials that offer permanence and suppleness. Most importantly, these rugs are economical without compromising on quality. Contemporary rugs come in all shapes and sizes, making them perfect for any room, hall or entranceway.

A contemporary wool rug can increase the prominence of a room. It can be the main attraction of the room, giving the entire room a modern, contemporary feel. Hand-knotted and hand-tufted are the two main types of woolen rugs. The difference between the two varieties is that in the hand-tufted type, a small machine or ‘gun’ is used to interleave the yarn into a backing for additional texture.
